The permanent collection of the Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum revives artistic practices of the late 19th century to present day, with a great focus on the art and culture of Cyprus through the works of renowned Cypriot artists. The collection of Zampelas family began in 1966 with The Cart painted by Greek artist Dimitris Anthis. The creation of the Museum in 2012, implemented a lifelong vision aiming at the acquisition and promotion of Cypriot art both locally and internationally.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, parallel exhibitions and events will take place until July 29, 2016.
The Museum gallery presents a collective exhibition of paintings and sculptures under the title Motherhood. Cypriot artists, with the exception of the Greek painter George Gounaropoulos, depict the important symbol of motherhood by portraying pregnancy, breastfeeding, the relationship between mother and daughter and finally the figure of the Cypriot mother.
"In each of the works displayed I identified myself with the motherly figure depicted," says the co-founder of the Museum, Mrs Loukia Zampelas.
The Cypriot artists included embody some of the pioneers of Cypriot art as well as active contemporary artists.

The Cyprus Strollers is for everyone who loves life outdoors and wants to: Get some exercise at the weekend Explore the city paths of Nicosia and the Cyprus countryside Meet people and make new friends It is a new hiking club, based in Nicosia, starting operation in Autumn 2014. There is an activity practically every weekend, from October to May. Activities alternate between Saturdays and Sundays. The club is modeled on the successful Athens Strollers hiking club, launched by Xenophon in Athens, Greece in 2009. Xenophon is a passionate hiker and nature lover, who returned to his native Cyprus in 2013, after a 30+ year career abroad. The Cyprus Strollers welcome families (with children and/ or pets) living in Cyprus, irrespective of nationality, as well as visitors/ tourists, who love nature and search for hiking opportunities during their stay. Some walks last two to three hours and follow fairly easy routes or routes of medium difficulty. Other walks last between 1 ½ - 2 hours. Each walk announcement includes reference to the degree of difficulty. The majority of walks are suitable for people with a good health, a good heart and a good physical fitness. Some others last over 3 hours and involve more strenuous exercise which includes uphill climbing. These are given a degree of difficulty 3 rating and are addressed to hikers who have tested their ability in similar circumstances before and have a very good health and fitness. Most walks start in the morning and are followed by lunch (optional) at a taverna, or a picnic. Others start in the early afternoon and are followed by a drink and a snack. There is no membership fee to join the Cyprus Strollers and no charge is made for the walks. Your only cost is what you pay for your meal. For more information about the Cyprus Strollers, the schedule for this season, detailed directions to the walks and contact details visit the website www.cyprus-strollers.org If you attend a Cyprus Strollers walk you do so entirely at your own risk. The Cyprus Strollers is a social club and neither the organizers nor the leader of the walk are responsible for the health and safety of those taking part.In an attempt to promote Troodos and the broader region, the Troodos Tourism Board in collaboration with the local communities organizes themed events which aim...

The music of the Bohemian Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) is a relatively recent “discovery” in today’s music world, although during his lifetime he was admired by J. S. Bach. In his six Trio sonatas, written around 1720, he astonishes the listener displaying a desire for experimentation and idiosyncratic writing. Αbounding with vivid dance rhythms, dissonances and colourful harmonies, a sophisticated use of imitative and fugal writing and startlingly demanding passages, this music will pleasantly surprise the listener with its originality and delight both mind and soul!
The programme includes the works:
J. D. ZELENKA: Trio Sonatas no. 4 in G minor and no. 5 in F major
The musicians:
David Perpiñán (oboe)
Laura Rodgers (oboe)
Giovanni Magni (bassoon)

A parallel exhibition entitled Successive Compositions exhibits works by artists based on a parent-child relationship. Displayed in duets, the works create a dialogue through comparison. The exhibition attempts to demonstrate the way a parent-artist impacts their offspring and their ability to express themselves as individuals through their own visual language.
Nitsa Hadjigeorgiou - Myrto Makridou
Nikos - Paul Kouroussis
Stass - Margaret Paraskos
Tassos and Katy - Panos Stephanidis
Niki Marangos - Katerina Attalidou
The permanent collection distinguishes itself through its diversity of media, ranging from cementographies by Christoforos Savva, Glyn Hughes’s batique, the three-dimensional composition of found objects by Stass Paraskos, the naive folk representations of Michael Chr. Kassialos, engravings by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali among others. Moreover, Theodoros Rallis, Alexandros Alexandrakis and Constantinos Volanakis represent Neoclassicism and Realism of the 19th century respectively.
The Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum is located outside the walls of Nicosia, in Kaimakli. Part of the collection is housed in a modern architectural building by Athos Dikaios and his associates, combining modern and traditional Cypriot architecture which is still present in the area. The bridge in between, part of the new building of 2012, highlights the remarkable site of the Museum that overlooks the mountain of Pentadaktylos.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr Konstantinos Yiorkadjis on the International Museum Day, Wednesday May 18 2016 at 20:00.

The Cyprus Strollers is a social club and neither the organizers nor the leader of the walk are responsible for the health and safety of those taking part.Opus 39 Gallery is hosting a Painting, Sculpture & Engraving Exhibition by Cypriot and Greek artists...

Stass - Margaret Paraskos
Tassos and Katy - Panos Stephanidis

The Cyprus Strollers is a social club and neither the organizers nor the leader of the walk are responsible for the health and safety of those taking part.Live music at Piroga Piroga restaurant, Lefkosia-Nicosia

The Cyprus Theatre Organisation will this summer be bringing the much loved Greek Cinema classic by Alekos Sakellarios My Daughter the Socialist to the stage, directed by Achilleas Grammatikopoulos. The performances of Aliki Vougiouklaki, Dimitris Papamichael, Lambros Konstadaras, Hronis Exarhakos, and other talented actors, together with the music and songs of Giorgos Zampetas, have withstood the test of time. The characters we have came to love in the film will come to life on stage and with their quarrels, strikes, Sunday excursions, romance and plenty of song and dance, will light up our summer nights.
Liza, the only daughter of industrialist Antonis Delvis, returns from her studies in London to Athens as she is due to succeed him in running the factory. Her ideas however are too progressive and clash with those of her conservative father. During a peace march, in which she participated despite Delvis' explicit ban, Liza rows with a peace activist who as it happens works at her father's factory, a detail neither is aware of. When Delvis decides to fire all the workers who took part in the march, the rest go on strike in protest. Liza sides with the workers, runs into the young activist and soon falls in love with him.
